Hands-down the highlight of the past year HAS to be Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Hands-down! No questions about it. (Well maybe that and the Dazed+Confused/Another Magazine Launch Party @ MiLK Studios).
At that point I had been in New York 6 months, working and interning everyday of those 6 months. But my hard work paid off, I fell under the good graces of the Senior PR staff at my internship and I was named Front of House VIP Coordinator, and I have to say that it was a dream. Sure dealing with people who are trying to steal seats, or sneak in their friends, or have MAJOR egos doesn't sound like a dream, but to me it was.
The icing on the cake was when the crew said "It's time. Everyone take their seats". I found the first empty seat at my disposal, it just so happened to be fourth row, mid section, but whatever. The light s went dar and the spotlight illuminated the "Charlotte Ronson" decal at the top of the runway. The music started playing and th first model took on the runway. It was everything and more to me. To know that this show, these people, everything at that very moment, my hand was in it all, whether I had been doing invites, or sending out media alerts, or sending sample dressings to the celebrities in the front row, I had helped it all come together at that moment.
It was without a doubt, a dream come true. Thankfully I kept my composure long enough to wip out my blackberry and take this photo. This moment for me was all the reassurance anyone who has interned, or freelanced, or worked under-paid could appreciate: that all my hard work and effort and sleepless nights weren't in vain, because it all had gotten me to this very moment. And that very feeling is something I will never forget.
